Hurricane Ike

Well we survived without too much damage.  It was a little scary at times--this was my first hurricane!!! Friday during the day we just played outside and waited... all our neighbors for the most part stayed and we all just hung out.  Then in to sleep before we lost power.  Ryan slept through most of it, in our room, thankfully.  Mike however barely slept Friday night during the storm it was too much for him, he had to keep looking out the windows and checking on everything.  We lost power about 1 am and then at about 330am we went and stood on our porch just to see.  It was really windy it looked as if it was going to split the tress.  Then we woke Saturday to see the rest of the damage and enjoy the rainy day.  We were out of power for about 38 hours.  Thankfully after the storm we went and got a camper trailer to sleep in.  Ryan and myself along with the neighbors slept in it Saturday night and then Sunday we got power back!!!  Now we are just getting everything cleaned up and back to normal.  We were very fortunate to get power back soo fast as most of Houston still is without power.  Here our some pictures from the Hurricane days.

Ryan and the Carney girls looking for the storm on Friday.....

Ryan getting ready to go play in the leftover rain Saturday morning

Then we went and drove around to see the damage in our area on Saturday.  This is the entrance to our neighborhood. This big tree was blocking it, so we went another way.
This is the Valero station around the corner.

Those are just a few of the pictures I took of the local damage.  It was crazy to drive around and see all the trees down, the amazing thing was to see how many trees barely missed the actual house.  Where we live we have tons of big tall skinny trees that all just snapped right in half-- very sad but thankful at the same time it could have been much worse.

Ryan got tried on our drive around and rested.  I think he enjoyed the moments of AC.

After the nap it was back to playing.. I love puddles and rain!!

Oh and one last picture this is the extent of our damage--what a blessing.  One small tree in our backyard snapped in half.  I was sad because that was the only shade in the backyard and it wasnt much.  Now we will have to buy a new tree and wait a few more years for shade.

My new bed

We have been busy painting Ryan's new room and Mike finished the bed, all we really need to do is hang pictures!! That being said we let Ryan give it a go last night and he did great.  Slept like a champ--like a baby in his crib.  This morning he yelled for us like usual and let us get him out.  I am very glad it is going smoothly, we will see how naps go and tonight.

Trying my new bed during the day.  I love it!!

A picture of the bed!! I showed Mike a picture of what I wanted and he created.  I love the bed and I love having such a talented husband.

First Day of School

Well Ryan had his first day of preschool on Wednesday.  Needless to say it was hard day on mom, Ryan and even a little for dad!!   He will go Monday and Wednesdays--in the end I think every one will like it.

Eating breakfast before we go.  Ryan really just played with his scrambled eggs--oh well

All dressed and ready to go

Carrying his backpack which was too heavy but he thought it was fun!

Then our neighbor who has kids in the same class and school brought him a cupcake for his first day of school.  I think this was his highlight of the day!!! The teachers said he cried a little at the beginning and was clingy but after about the first hour was fine, so we will see how next week goes!!

My head cases

The head cases.....

--- well this was an eventful few days.  Mike fell out of the side rail in the bed of his truck and landed on his head.  It caused him to pass out and end up in the ER. Thankfully everything was fine just a mild concussion and a bunch of bumps and bruises.  Then today Ryan was running to through the house and fell hitting his head on the kitchen cabinet.  He now has a huge bruise to the middle of his forehead, in addition to the abrasion on his face from falling on the cement the same day Mike fell.  Thankfully I have not fallen,  I am still holding my own in the balance world!!
You can kinda see the purple to the forehead and a little of the abrasion around the eye of the other side.  My poor boys, glad they are fine and I am sure this is only the beginning for Ryan.
